Welcoming Ramadan

The utmost important month is right upon us, Ramadan or the month which has more significance to it than all other months combined in the Islamic Calendar. No words can justly describe its importance and how crucial it is for every believing Muslim man and woman.

As it is a norm to welcome our important guests with deep respect, Ramadan is indeed a guest which comes only once in a year, and it brings with it a unique breeze of blessings of Allah All Mighty.

What makes Ramadan take its seniority over all other months, not just one but many traits make it special, The word of ALLAH was revealed and completed in Ramadan, The night of power or better known as Layla-tul-Qadr is in Ramadan, The doors of hell are closed and the doors of heaven open in Ramadan. These are just a few of many traits making Ramadan that much special.

Almighty Allah says, “The month of Ramadan in which was revealed the Qur’an, a guidance for mankind, and clear proofs of the guidance, and the Criterion (of right and wrong). And whosoever of you is present, let him fast the month, and whosoever of you is sick or on a journey, (let him fast the same) number of other days. Allah desireth for you ease; He desireth not hardship for you; and (He desireth) that ye should complete the period, and that ye should magnify Allah for having guided you, and that peradventure ye may be thankful.” (Al-Baqarah 2: 185)

Ramadan presents us with a great opportunity to do good, strengthen our imaan and relinquish our bad habits. As the shaytaan the cursed is locked away from deviating us, In Ramadan our actions are solely influenced by our inner will and thus it is indeed a great time to recognize who we really are and what can we do about getting on the right path.

To welcome our beloved holy month, we need to take a few steps to embrace the blessings of Ramadan with open heart. People often get busy with shopping for Eid festivals, getting groceries for Ramadan parties and other matters where on the contrast we should be preparing for the arrival of Ramadan before it comes upon.

Our daily routines will need to be changed to sync with the suhoor and iftaar times,  we need to dedicate our time daily for worshipping ALLAH ALL MIGHTY, if we don’t pray the daily obligatory prayers yet, then Ramadan is the best time of the year to make that habit of praying.

Ramadan is akin to trading, trading not for profits but good deeds, getting rid from our bad deeds by doing repentance and gaining good deeds by performing the acts which ALLAH and his Messenger Muhammad ﷺ endorsed for us to do.

The Prophet ﷺ said in a number of authentic narrations, “Whoever fasts this month of Ramadan with faith in Allah and hope in Allah’s forgiveness, his previous sins will be forgiven.” (Sahih Bukhari)

Let us greet the month of forgiveness and blessings, welcome Ramadan who knows that we may live to see another one in our life or not, let us not waste this graceful opportunity of worshipping our creator.
